Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine in Hyde Park (Comer Children's Hospital) is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Pediatric Float Pool. The RN will provide patient-centered care, manage assignments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, quality outcomes.

The role is 0.9 FTE with nights 7:00pm-7:30am, every other weekend, in a fast-paced pediatric setting. Requires ICU experience, NLN-accredited nursing education, and Illinois RN licensure.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience.
• Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN Illinois license.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
• Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care.
• Provides input into the development of clinical paths with assigned Case Manager.
• Uses care plan and/or clinical path in providing patient care and delegates as appropriate based on patient needs and staff competencies.
• Competently performs patient care according to hospital policy and nursing practice within clinical specialty as documented by competency days.
• Evaluates care given and adjusts plan of care to meet changing patient needs.
• Documents appropriately in patient care records.
• Prepares and administers medication/treatment according to physician orders to assure patient safety.
• Works collaboratively with other patient care and multidisciplinary team members to provide patient-centered care.
• Documents all patient care from admission to discharge according to hospital policies.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the plan of care to ensure smooth transition from hospital to home.
• Provides cost-effective care by proper use of time, supplies and personnel.
• Evaluates patient care interventions and collaborates with team members to make changes as necessary.
• Initiates and/or participates in patient care conferences.
• Interacts with patient and family to coordinate care, especially when Case Manager involvement is limited.
• Promotes patient care protocols for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
