Job summary

Connecticut Children’s is seeking a dedicated patient care assistant to join an inpatient/hospital unit under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role involves routine direct patient care and supporting environmental and administrative tasks to promote patient safety and comfort in a pediatric setting.

Responsibilities include assisting with feeding and personal care, taking vital signs, collecting specimens, applying basic dressings, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or higher level of education that would require the completion of high school.
• Preferred: EMT Basic, EMT-Intermediate, or EMT-Paramedic certification preferred.
• Preferred: PCA or nurse’s aide training program or enrollment in program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care - Provides direct patient care on unit per defined needs.
• Assist patient with feedings and personal care.
• Obtain vital signs, temperature, weight, height, head circumference or other data.
• Obtain and test specimens (e.g., blood glucose, urine).
• Apply splints and other orthopedic devices; assist with ambulation.
