Qualifications

• No experience required.
• License as a Registered Nurse in the state of Connecticut.
• Specialty license as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the state of Connecticut.
• Certification or Re-certification by The National Board on Certification of Nurse Anesthesia, NBCRNA.
• PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate all patients according to their specific age development stage and diagnosis.
• Recommends, requests, and evaluates pertinent diagnostic studies and documents pre-anesthetic evaluation.
• Educate patients about surgery, recovery and obtain informed consent for anesthesia.
• Select and/or administer pre-anesthetic medications.
• Prepare operating room; check anesthesia machine, supplies, medications and gases.
• Select, prepare and administer anesthetic agents.
• Inform anesthesiologist and/or surgeon of changes in patient’s condition.
• Provide anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, and post-anesthesia care.
• Provide perianesthetic invasive and non-invasive monitoring.
• Respond to abnormal findings with corrective action.
• Recognize and treat cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Evaluate patient response during emergence from anesthesia.
• Provide post-anesthesia follow-up and evaluation.
• Manage emergency situations and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Perform equipment safety checks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing

Graduation from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs
