Job summary

Children’s Nebraska is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for an evening shift at the Omaha campus. The role involves performing tests across Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Virology and Serology, with duties including instrument calibration, quality control and LIS reporting.

You will consult with medical staff to interpret results, participate in proficiency testing, and assist in training new staff while maintaining strict patient care standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in MLS or related science.
• MLS certification within 6 months of hire required.
• Meningococcus vaccination required if interpreting certain cultures.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens in Hematology, Chemistry, Microscopy, Coagulation, Microbiology, Virology and Serology to assist in identifying medical disorders and monitor therapy.
• Utilizes LIS for reporting results, documenting quality control and data distribution.
• Checks instrument calibration and reagent reactivity to ensure accurate results.
• Evaluates results and takes action to prevent compromising patient care.
• Participates in proficiency testing throughout the year.
• Performs troubleshooting and maintenance to keep equipment in good order.
• Supports staff and students in orientation, training and competency.
