Job summary

Baptist Health in central Alabama seeks a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist specializing in neonatal care to join our NICU‑focused team. The role emphasizes safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use across two Level 3 NICUs, with bedside rounds and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The ideal candidate has PharmD (or ASHP residency) and BCPS/BCPPS is preferred; inpatient experience and credentialing in Alabama are required or planned. Day shift, 7 on/7 off.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • PharmD degree preferred.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency or inpatient experience.
  • BCPS or BCPPS preferred or pursued within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide departmental leadership and oversight for all clinical pharmacy activities in the NICU when on duty in cooperation with NICU team.
  • Support staff development to ensure competency standards are met.
  • Stay current with pharmaceutical practices and policies.
  • Collaborate with management to plan, implement, and evaluate new programs and activities.
  • Promote safe and appropriate medication therapy throughout the department.
  • Actively participate in pharmacy residency programs and research

Baptist Health is excited to announce the availability of a pediatric clinical pharmacist position with a focus in neonatal care. Baptist Health is home to two Level 3 NICUs providing more than 60 beds between the Baptist East and Baptist South locations. In addition, Baptist East also provides inpatient medical care for children in a dedicated pediatric unit. This position is unique and allows the pharmacist to work across the system optimizing patient care with providers in all of our pediatric units. Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist to work with our current team to drive excellence in our clinical pharmacy activities. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medications for our pediatric patients. This pharmacist will be responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of pharmaceutical activities while fostering staff development and maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical practice. Daily responsibilities include: bedside rounds with multidisciplinary care team, completion of antimicrobial, anticoagulation, pharmacokinetic and parenteral nutrition consults, review of Sentri 7 monitoring, participation in code blue events and other emergencies, and discharge education related to medications. Current schedule is Day Shift 7 on/ 7 off.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred.

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program or a minimum of 3 years inpatient experience.
  • Alabama Board of Pharmacy license current, or eligible and must obtained within 3 months of position.
  • Alabama Board of Pharmacy controlled substance license current or obtained within 3 months in position.
  • BCPS or BCPPS upon hire is preferred or working towards attainment of board certification within 2 years of hire date
  • ALBOP parenteral certification within 3 months in position.
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NRP or attainment within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to accurately perform computer order entry duties (Cerner, InsightRX and Omnicell experience helpful).
  • Proficient in needed pharmaceutical calculations and the metric system.
  • Basic knowledge in pharmacokinetic calculations and parenteral nutrition management.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education, experience in precepting APPE students and PGY1 and PGY2 residents preferred.
