Job summary

Catholic Health is seeking a Child Life Specialist on a per diem basis at Good Samaritan University Hospital on Long Island. You will provide psychosocial support to pediatric patients and families in a collaborative team oriented toward evidence-based care.

The role emphasizes therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and ongoing documentation, with a focus on reducing anxiety and improving the patient experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Creative Arts Therapy, or related field is required.
• Eligible for Child Life Certification (CCLS) within 18 months of hire.
• Completion of a 600-hour Child Life internship is required.
• BLS/CPR certification is required (American Heart Association accepted).
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Pediatric healthcare and/or oncology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial support to pediatric patients and families.
• Utilize therapeutic play and developmental activities to promote coping and healing.
• Prepare children and families for medical procedures and hospital experiences.
• Support families throughout the child’s healthcare journey.
• Maintain documentation and contribute to a safe, child-friendly environment.
