The role involves performing daily clinical operations of Echocardiography, including performing echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretations, and covering all sites and shifts including call coverage.
Level I: Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by physicians and in accordance with standard practices. Provides services at all necessary locations, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage. Operates equipment necessary for procedures, maintains equipment, and performs routine cleaning and minor repairs. Analyzes patient history, prepares preliminary reports for review, and participates in quality improvement activities. Instructs students and staff, attends meetings, and fosters a collaborative work environment.
Level II: Participates in patient testing, performs advanced ultrasound services, assists with complex procedures, acts as a resource and preceptor, and supports department objectives and quality assurance initiatives.
Level III: Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures, provides expert instruction, ensures quality assurance, maintains ICAEL accreditation, and leads departmental policies and procedures reviews.
Graduate or completion of an accredited program, or current registry/certification. Experience requirements vary by level, from none beyond education to a minimum of 2-4 years in the specialty modality.
ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography, BLS certification, with ARDMS/CCI certification required within 18 months of hire.
Ability to perform and interpret echocardiograms, operate related equipment, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively. Leadership and teaching skills are essential at higher levels.
