Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health's Children's Specialized Hospital in Toms River seeks a Per Diem Recreation Therapist to support pediatric programs in the Camps department. The role focuses on designing and leading therapeutic recreation activities to promote physical, emotional, social, and developmental well‑being for children and adolescents in community and hospital settings.

The position requires CTRS certification, BLS, NJ driver's license, and experience with pediatric populations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreational Therapy with emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation
• CTRS certification through NCTRC is required
• BLS Provider Certification through AHA is required
• New Jersey Driver's License required
• Experience with pediatric populations; ability to adapt activities for disabilities
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate adapted recreation programs for children and adolescents with special healthcare needs
• Plan, organize, and lead therapeutic recreation programs including aquatics, camps, and community activities
• Adapt activities, equipment, and environments to meet diverse abilities and needs
• Prepare program materials and spaces to ensure safe, engaging delivery
• Support attendance, scheduling, and logistics for program operations
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and interns in community recreation programs
• Collaborate with hospital foundation to secure grant funding for services
• Liaise with families, schools, and community partners to identify needs and opportunities
• Promote safety by complying with hospital policies and standards
• Contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement projects
