Job summary

Qualifications

• Knowledge of childhood development and physical and developmental disabilities.
• Ability to plan activities and adapt environments for various abilities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Support and assist in planning, coordinating and implementing adapted recreation programs for children and youth with special needs.
• Assist with preparation and setup of programs and activities, including equipment and schedules.
• Facilitate adapted recreation activities such as aquatics, martial arts, camps and evening recreation.
• Adapt activities and environments to accommodate diverse needs and abilities.
• Apply knowledge of development and disabilities to support safe participation.
• Maintain positive, inclusive environment and respond to challenging behaviors.
• Assist with participant assessment and activity planning under supervision.
• Communicate with participants, families, volunteers and staff via email, phone and other platforms.
• Handle administrative tasks like data entry, registration and recordkeeping.
• Maintain inventory and cleanliness of equipment and spaces.
• Assist with coordinating programs and events and supervising volunteers.
• Orient and supervise volunteers and community groups per hospital policies.
