Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a Patient Care Associate to support Bridgeport Hospital’s patient care team. The role works under supervision of the Registered Nurse, providing direct and indirect care to patients across shifts.

You will perform basic clinical tasks, ensure patient safety, and participate in handoffs and shift reports. Required qualifications include a CNA credential or equivalent training, English proficiency, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CNA credential, EMT, or equivalent healthcare experience.
• BLS training must be obtained prior to employment or within 1 month.

Responsibilities

• Under RN direction, assist in selected tasks to support patient assessment and care.
• Records vital signs as ordered and reported to RN.
• Perform technical duties and treatments to ensure safe delivery of care.
• Ensure patient identification follows policies (ID bracelets, doors, barcode scans).
• Assist in patient care with focus on safety for diverse patient populations.
• Communicate with patients, families, and staff; cover the BA desk as needed.
• Participate in bedside reports at shift start and as needed.
• Relocate and rotate to meet patient care needs.
• Complete non-therapeutic functions and deliver meds from pneumatic tube to the unit.
