Job summary

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join the Neuro/Stepdown team. The PCA delivers high-quality patient care, assists with daily living activities, and supports the clinical team to maintain a safe patient environment.

Preferred CNA certification with at least 6 months CNA experience, English fluency, and current BLS. The role is full-time with a 12-hour NIGHT shift, 72 hours per pay period, including holidays and weekends.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a service mindset.
• Ability to read, speak and follow instruction in English.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with activities of daily living and ensures a safe, organized environment.
• Supports patient care under the direction of a clinician.
• Aids with patient logistics, clerical tasks, equipment/supply handling and charge reconciliation.

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista.

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

This is a Full-Time (72 hours per pay period), with a 12-hour NIGHT shift, on variable days of the week including holidays and weekends.

Located at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego (Hillcrest).

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides excellent service to patients as a key member of the clinical care team.

• Assists patients with personal needs and activities of daily living, collects data, and ensures the patient has a safe, organized environment.
• Assists with patient care within the scope permitted and under the direction of a clinician.
• Supports the unit with a variety of patient logistic, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification

• CNA certification.
• Prefer at least 6 months of CNA experience.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills

• One year of recent experience working under the license of a licensed healthcare provider OR
• current enrollment or completion of Nursing Assistant training from a recognized school OR
• current enrollment in an RN program with completion of the second semester, including nursing fundamentals.
• Must be able to speak, read and follow instruction in English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a service aptitude.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care provider

Position Pay Range: $25.48-$30.89/hour
