Job summary

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego is seeking a Per Diem? or Full-Time? Patient Care Assistant to join the clinical care team on a 12-hour night schedule. You will assist patients with daily living activities, data collection, and maintain a safe environment under supervision, with weekends and holidays coverage.

You will work as part of a site-based Float Pool for Mercy San Diego and Mercy Chula Vista, contributing to high-quality patient care and efficient unit operations.

Qualifications

• CNA certification preferred.
• Multiple patient care skills preferred.
• One-year acute care experience preferred.
• One year of recent experience under a licensed provider or nursing assistant training completion.
• English language proficiency required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS for health care provider.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal needs and activities of daily living.
• Assist with patient care under the direction of a clinician.
• Support the unit with patient logistics, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties.

This is a Full-Time position (72 hours per pay period), with a 12-hour NIGHT shift schedule that includes weekends and holidays.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides excellent service to patients as a key member of the clinical care team.

• Assists patients with personal needs and activities of daily living, collects data, and ensures the patient has a safe, organized environment.
• Assists with patient care within the scope permitted and under the direction of a clinician.
• Supports the unit with a variety of patient logistic, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• CNA certification preferred.
• Multiple patient care skills preferred.
• One-year acute care experience preferred.

Required:

• One year of recent experience working under the license of a licensed healthcare provider OR
• current enrollment or completion of Nursing Assistant training from a recognized school OR
• current enrollment in an RN program with completion of the second semester, including nursing fundamentals.
• Must be able to speak, read and follow instruction in English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a service aptitude.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care provider
