Job description

Responsibilities include answering the switchboard and pagers overhead, greeting and directing people to the appropriate departments. The PBX operator monitors hospital alarms and must be aware of the policies and procedures of all hospital emergency codes. Ability to communicate effectively with populations served, including neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle adults, and geriatrics.

• Knowledge of phone lists for all department extensions and transfers calls appropriately. Knowledge of department manager’s pager numbers, alphanumeric paging system, and timely paging.
• Uses appropriate vocabulary when communicating with patients, physicians, or other department personnel.
• Demonstrates good judgment in arranging for vendors, law enforcement, and regulatory agency escorts into the hospital.

Regulatory Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) preferred.
