Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore is seeking a PBX Operator to be the welcoming first point of contact, handling calls, paging, and message relay for physicians with accuracy and courtesy.

Responsibilities include monitoring life safety codes, paging operations, and assisting with pager provisioning, using hospital phone and paging systems daily.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Prefer two years of switchboard experience.
  • Must possess computer/PC skills; general word processing and keyboard skills.

  • Answers calls directed to the Mercy Operator from internal and external callers, within 3 rings as described in the customer service protocol.
  • Transfer callers to correct destination.
  • Take and relay messages for physicians appropriately, including digital and/or alpha paging.
  • Monitors alarms, process life safety codes and other emergency plans.
  • Provides overhead paging services.
  • Assists with the provisioning and replacement of pagers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively use department hardware and software.

Salary Information

Compensation decisions are made in alignment with internal equity, role scope, and market data to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. Most new hires are typically placed within the lower to mid-portion of the range; offers above that level are reserved for candidates with advanced or highly specialized qualifications.
