You will lead a high-performing team of payroll tax experts handling end-to-end resolution of notices, amendments, and corrections across multiple states and federal rules. The role requires hands-on payroll tax expertise and a passion for developing people, with the discipline to maintain high performance in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of people management experience in payroll tax operations or related service environment.
• 5+ years hands-on payroll tax experience with notice resolution, amended returns, and multi-state corrections.
• Experience resolving complex IRS/state correspondence including penalty assessments.
• Experience preparing amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law and multi-state payroll tax across jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to drive corrective actions and process improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to simplify complex issues for stakeholders.
• Proficiency with an enterprise payroll platform and Salesforce.

Responsibilities

• Translate PTO vision into a team strategy and 1+ year operating plan aligned to goals.
• Own delivery and quality outcomes, ensuring SLA compliance and backlog reduction.
• Lead regular check-ins, feedback, and career development conversations.
• Serve as final escalation for the most complex IRS/state notices with a resolution strategy.
• Drive lean management practices and daily Huddles to surface and solve issues.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers, enforce intake/closure workflows.
• Own SOP and KB governance; translate regulatory updates into team briefings.
• Drive hiring, onboarding, and succession planning.
• Continuously assess and improve processes within scope.
