Job summary

Intuit Inc. is seeking a people manager to lead the Payroll Tax Operations (PTO) team. You will helm a high-performing group of tax processors handling notices, amendments, corrections, and pay & file across multiple states.

The ideal candidate has extensive payroll tax expertise and a track record of developing people, driving performance, and managing high-volume cases with strict quality standards. This role emphasizes coaching, escalation management, and operational discipline.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of people management experience in payroll tax operations or related service environment.
• 5+ years of hands-on payroll tax experience with notice resolution and amended returns across multiple states.
• Proven experience resolving complex IRS/state agency correspondence including penalty assessments.
• Experience preparing amended Federal (941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across 10+ states.

Responsibilities

• Translate PTO vision into a one+ year operating plan aligned to department goals.
• Own delivery and quality outcomes, ensuring SLA compliance and backlog reduction.
• Lead Tax Processors through monthly check-ins, feedback, and career development conversations.
• Serve as final escalation point for complex IRS/state notices with a resolution strategy.
• Drive lean management practices including daily huddles and WIP reviews.
• Monitor team WIP, identify aging cases and blockers; enforce workflows to meet deadlines.
• Own SOP and KB governance; translate regulatory updates into briefings and revisions.
• Drive hiring, onboarding, and skills calibration; build succession depth.
• Continuously assess and improve processes within team scope; reduce non-value-added work.
• Demonstrate ability to lead teams delivering high-quality customer experiences.
