The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-state payroll, which includes all payroll and payroll support functions and related time functions and supervising a staff of three in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Payroll Supervisor will serve as the backup for the Payroll Manager.
Essential Functions
- Supervise and monitor the payroll staff through servant leadership to ensure accurate and efficient payroll operation.
- Process assigned payrolls in compliance with federal, state and local laws within the designated timelines.
- Work with and through others to obtain compliance with payroll timelines and procedures.
- Act as a resource person to Payroll Coordinators for all payroll related processing issues, including troubleshooting system issues, working with technical support, IT and others as required.
- Use judgement to escalate processing and/or team issues to manager as necessary.
- Consistently drive the payroll team in a supporting manner to finalize payrolls within designated timelines for all entities of Herschend.
- Audit and approve payrolls prior to finalization, correcting errors as necessary.
- Evaluate payroll practices critically and continually to identify, and implement, opportunities for increased effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy and compliance with federal, state and local laws.
- Balance customer service to employees and property management with efficiency of operation, providing excellent quality customer service to internal employees as well as outside sources.
- Maintain payroll guidelines and drive standardization and efficiency by establishing, writing and updating desk procedures.
- Maintain strong, effective internal controls and audit procedures by directing the collection, calculation and entering of payroll data.
- Responsible for training of new hires within the Payroll team.
- Process, audit and weekly distribute labor reports.
- Responsible for balancing, filing and remittance of all payroll tax including submission of JE’s to be made for collections and payments made.
- Support Payroll Manager in balancing and filing year end W2’s and reporting.
- Collect data for Workers Compensation audits and work with auditors for submission.
- Train to serve as backup to the Payroll Manager.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of employee information.
- Use independent judgment, logic and analytical skills in problem solving.

Requirements
- BS in Accounting/Finance and 3 years' experience in full-cycle payroll administration preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Ultimate Kronos Group/UltiPro (UKG) preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of spreadsheet preparation utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- Proven knowledge of and work with labor reporting interface to payroll.
- Multi-state payroll tax experience required.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a friendly, professional manner.
- Self-supervised and disciplined to prioritize and complete work on a timely basis.
- Handle confidential information responsibly.
- Detail oriented.
