The position requires an Associate degree or equivalent training and 2 years of payroll/HR/accounting experience, with bilingual English/Spanish abilities being advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares reports including wages, Medicare, Social Security and Form 941.
  • Processes wire transfers and EFT payment batches.
  • Reviews leave pay and ensures accurate compensation.
  • Posts personnel actions: hires, promotions, terminations, transfers.
  • Overrides entries for insurance deductions, new hires, terminations and pro-rates.
  • Enters incentives, supplements, travel reimbursements, court orders, payouts.
  • Processes direct deposit changes, tax changes, dependent information, changes of name/address.
  • Prepares payroll analysis and various system reports.
  • Responds to inquiries via phone/fax and provides verifications.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to support the Payroll Supervisor by assisting with the daily operations of payroll-related tasks. Ensure the delivery of timely and accurate financial reports to management and address payroll needs of county employees.

This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

  • Prepares reports to include wages, Medicare, Social Security and prepares tax form 941.
  • Prepares wire transfers by balancing the appropriate reports with configured data and creates batches for EFT payments.
  • Reviews holiday, overtime, compensatory, annual and sick leave pay to validate accurate compensation.
  • Reviews and posts personnel actions such as new hires, promotions, terminations, transfers, etc.
  • Override entries that include but are not limited to insurance deductions, new hires, termination and other pro-rates.
  • Conducts data entry of incentives, supplements, travel reimbursements, court orders, payouts, etc.
  • Processes direct deposit changes, tax changes, dependent information, name changes, address updates, etc.
  • Prepares payroll analysis reports, Time Clock Plus reports, Tyler reports, system data requests on pay, positions, timesheets, etc.
  • Answers phone calls, incoming faxes, provides requested information such as verifications of employment, retirement questions, timesheet questions, etc.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Two years of payroll, human resources, accounting or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Other Requirements/Information
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving history. *If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver’s License must be obtained prior to employment.
  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
