Job summary

Cheney Public Schools is seeking a Payroll Specialist to process and administer district payroll with accuracy and timeliness. You will work under the Lead Payroll Specialist and Finance Director to ensure data integrity and compliance across all payroll functions.

The role requires knowledge of Skyward, Google Workspace, and MS Office, plus strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly with staff. This is a year-round, on-site position at the district office in Cheney, WA.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent; related work experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent college coursework in business/finance.
• Prior payroll and/or accounting experience preferred; school district experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform payroll functions including timesheets, absence reporting and benefits administration.
• Enter and maintain employee data in Skyward; prepare custom reports for admins.
• Process payroll documents and verifications; balance payroll and vendor payments.
• Administer sick, personal leave and vacation allocations; assist in budget data.
• Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and recordkeeping requirements.
• Prepare payroll data for annual budget and maintain records retention.
