Position: Payroll Specialist
Pay Rate: $30.00 /hourly
Location: Stockton, CA
Job Description:
The primary responsibilities of this position are the maintenance of employment and payroll records and processing of weekly in-house payroll.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation and processing of payroll meeting all deadlines
- Assure confidentiality and security of records and information
- Process weekly in-house payroll and all associated tasks such as timecard audit, pre payroll transmission audits and balancing
- Audit New Hires, process employee changes and terminations
- Ensure compliance and adhere to company policies relating to processing of wages and paid time off
- Audit timecards
- Prepare/process/transmit federal, state, and local tax funding files
- Respond, enter, maintain garnishments in compliance with agencies and state laws
- Research complex payroll issues for proper treatment
- Process incentive, union, health waiver reimbursements, timely and accurately
- Assist with account reconciliations and other payroll controls such as balancing payroll results to payroll tax returns and to year-end Form w2 statements
- Interface with accounting department, banks and other outside sources regarding payroll policies, interpretation, pay computations, direct deposits
- Perform special pay cycles to process bonuses
- Process on demand checks accurately and timely
- Stay current with laws, limits, union contracts, company policies, department SOP’s
- Upload documents into appropriate files in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education: Equivalent of the completion of the twelfth grade, supplement by course work or training in payroll or general accounting obtained through a community college, trade, or correspondence school. In the absence of formal education, experience that is equivalent and directly related may be substituted. FPC or CPP designation would be desirable.
- Experience: Position must have five years of increasingly responsible payroll and accounting experience.
- Knowledge. Must have thorough knowledge of payroll policies and procedures. Also a demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with personal computers including associated business software (MS-Excel, Word and Access preferred) at an intermediate level or above, PowerPoint a plus.
- Position requires demonstrated knowledge of computer systems reporting. Data processing systems development experience would be desirable.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong, professional communication skills in listening, speaking, and writing necessary for communication with departments, employees, agencies over the phone, in person, and via e-mail. Attention to detail is critical. Organizational skills along with ability to prioritize is necessary.
