Job Goal: To support the effective administration of the financial operations of
Somerset Public Schools and Somerset Berkley Regional School District through the
accurate, timely, and confidential processing of payroll. The individual is expected to
exercise a high degree of accuracy, accountability, discretion, and integrity in all payroll-
related matters and to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures,
collective bargaining agreements, and regulatory requirements.
Somerset Public Schools and Somerset Berkley Regional School District operate as two
separate school districts: Somerset Public Schools, serving grades PreK–8, and
Somerset Berkley Regional School District, serving grades 9–12. Together, the districts
employ approximately 575 employees. As a result, the position is responsible for
processing and maintaining two separate biweekly payrolls.
Payroll Responsibilities:
Manage and administer district payroll to ensure that staff are paid accurately and in
a timely manner
Plan and manage payroll-related projects
Verify time records, make appropriate correcting entries prior to processing
Maintain and update payroll records
Develop annual pay schedules and distribute
Communicate payroll information to staff
Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations
Must be able to communicate with the community, staff and team members in a
positive and helpful manner
Assist in Developing procedures and policies to increase efficiency within the
department
Compile timesheet and data enter in the Harpers Payroll Processing System
Verify appropriate school budget lines and various grant
Reconcile and verify data prior to electronically submitting each district payroll
Liaisons with municipal Finance office to coordinate and complete payroll-related
transactions and share/receive information– some information may be sensitive and
confidential
Prepare biweekly payroll warrants for signatures
Prepare payroll data for the District Treasurer and MA Teachers Retirement System
Maintaining Employee deductions (bi-weekly and updated annually) such as but not
limited to: Voluntary Employee Benefits, Bristol County Retiree Contributions & Reporting, Tax Withholding, etc.
Calculate employee separation payout
Assist with monthly, quarterly and end-of-year payroll accruals
Respond to employee payroll inquiries promptly, professionally, and accurately,
providing timely resolution and appropriate follow-up as needed
Update employee compensation earning annually per their respective contract
Performs various related office duties as assigned. Position Type: Full-time
