Job summary

Staffmark Workforce Solutions has a contract opportunity for a Payroll Specialist in Plano, TX. The role is fully on-site, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with hours potentially varying.

The payroll specialist will support payroll accounting and reporting, ensure compliance with federal and state laws, and manage data across multiple payroll systems, including Kronos/UltiPro and Workday. Requires 5–7 years of experience, a bachelor’s in marketing, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in marketing or equivalent training required.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
• 3+ years US & CAN payroll work experience, preferably in a 3rd party payroll/shared service.
• 2+ years in customer service with strong relationship skills.
• Experience with top-tier payroll and HRIS systems (UKGPro, Kronos, Workday) preferred.
• APA FPC or CPP designations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Kronos timecard maintenance and data integrity across payroll systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in payroll processing.
• Manage relationships within defined SLAs and provide product support to stakeholders.
• Act as Customer Experience lead for payroll inquiries via multiple channels.
• Identify process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
• Handle leaves of absence and supplemental benefit payments calculations.
• Support Sr. Payroll Analysts with high-quality payroll delivery.
• Assist with periodic and ad hoc reporting for stakeholders.
• Contribute to data collection for system enhancements and projects.
• Support audit processes for monthly, quarterly, and annual activities.

Summary:

The Main function of a payroll specialist is to assist in payroll accounting and reporting, including stop payments and transactions. The typical payroll specialist will be responsible for ensuring the payroll processing is compliant with all Federal and State Laws.

Responsibilities:

• Kronos timecard maintenance, Workday HRIS data integrity, accurate payroll process management via UltiPro, time accrual management, and auditing of data sets between various payroll source systems
• Ensure company representatives utilize appropriate processing procedures within federal, state, and local compliance regulations
• Effectively manage relationships within defined SLAs while providing ongoing research, resolution, product support, and a superior customer experience to workers, HR, accounting, retirement program and benefits administrators, as well as payroll and timekeeping vendors
• Act as the Customer Experience team for payroll-related inquiries submitted via Service Request ticketing system, phone, and other various channels (inc. team email box management)
• Evaluate processes and procedural documents for increased efficiencies and opportunities for continuous improvement
• Manage leaves of absence and calculation of supplemental benefit payments
• Support Sr. Payroll Analysts in delivering high-quality results to payroll customers
• Support recurring and ad hoc reporting, including production of basic to intermediate reporting to various internal and external stakeholders
• Support various project initiatives including collection of user requirements for system enhancements and solutions
• Support periodic and cumulative audit processes for monthly, quarterly, and annual activities
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing or equivalent training required
• 5-7 years of relevant experience required
• Demonstrated performance as a NASSC Agent will be accepted in place of the below qualifications
• 3+ years of US & CAN work experience in a payroll role, preferably in a 3rd party payroll or shared service environment
• 2+ years in a customer service-related field and ability to demonstrate strong customer relationship skills
• Experience with top-tier payroll and HRIS systems (UKGPro [UltiPro], UKG WFC [Kronos], UKG WFD [Dimensions], Workday, or similar)
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve requests using pre-defined and creative solutions
• Expertly interpret, create, and present a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form
• Produce measurable results in a collaborative team environment as well as independently to manage time and priorities while achieving defined personal and team goals
• Payroll audit, control, quality assurance and/or tax management experience
• Payroll accounting experience including GL posting, accruals and reconciliation of payroll expenses
• Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• APA Fundamental Payroll Certificate (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designations preferred
