Job Description
Payroll Specialist

RightClick Operations | South Norwalk, CT | Hybrid (Onsite Monday through Thursday)

About RightClick

RightClick helps businesses run better and find the right people to help them do it. We do this through two focused teams, RightClick Technology and RightClick Talent, working together under one roof.

Position Summary

The Payroll Specialist keeps pay accurate and on time for everyone who works with RightClick. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you'll run bi-weekly payroll for our internal team and 100+ consultants on W‑2, 1099, and corp‑to‑corp arrangements, calculate commissions and bonuses, and manage the payroll side of every hire and departure.

Payroll experience is a plus, but it isn't required. We'll train the right person, and every payroll run gets a second review from the VP of Finance while you learn. If you're good with numbers, careful with details, and want to own a full payroll cycle instead of one piece of it, we'd love to talk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Run the bi-weekly payroll cycle for employees and consultants, including variable pay, deductions, retirement contributions, and garnishments.
  • Collect and track consultant hours each pay period, follow up on missing or late timesheets, and keep time records accurate.
  • Calculate commissions and bonuses each cycle and document each calculation clearly.
  • Record payroll in the general ledger and prepare the billing details used to invoice clients.
  • Confirm benefit deductions match employee elections each pay cycle.
  • Run quarterly paid sick leave audits to ensure balances are compliant with state requirements.
  • Handle payroll onboarding and offboarding for employees and consultants, including employment eligibility verification, new pay setups, and final pay, and serve as their first stop for pay questions.
  • Look for manual steps in the payroll process and help replace them with simpler, more reliable ones.
Qualifications
Required
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, and working across linked worksheets.
  • A high level of accuracy with numbers and the habit of checking your own work before passing it on.
  • The ability to hit fixed deadlines when information comes in late or incomplete, and to follow up until you have what you need.
  • Discretion with confidential pay and personal information.
  • Clear, friendly communication with employees, consultants, and managers who have questions about their pay.
Preferred
  • One or more years of payroll processing experience, ideally in ADP.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll, or familiarity with how withholding and paid leave rules vary by state.
  • Experience at a staffing, consulting, or other firm that pays contractors alongside employees, or with commission and variable pay.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks or time tracking software.
  • Coursework in accounting or finance, or progress toward a payroll certification such as the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $60,000 to $75,000, based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, with other coverages available.
  • 401(k), paid time off, and paid holidays.
