Our client is an organization in the Madison area looking for a Payroll Specialist. Our client is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable individual who is interested in building or continuing a career in payroll. This position will support payroll activities for employees across multiple locations and is a great opportunity for someone with an Accounting or Human Resources education who is eager to learn and grow within a payroll function.
The salary range for this position is$60k–70k.
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process recurring payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established deadlines.
- Review employee time and payroll information prior to processing and identify discrepancies requiring additional follow-up.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including pay changes, deductions, taxes, and other payroll-related information.
- Assist with payroll activities for employees working across multiple states and locations.
- Review timekeeping information and work with employees and managers to resolve missing or inaccurate records.
- Process payroll adjustments and other employee changes as needed.
- Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, timekeeping, and other payroll matters.
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation and employee records within applicable systems.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and review payroll reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Support payroll tax and compliance activities as needed.
- Coordinate with Human Resources, Accounting, and operational teams to ensure payroll information is communicated and processed appropriately.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities and required reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling employee and payroll information.
- Research payroll discrepancies and help resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Support improvements to payroll processes, documentation, and system utilization.
- Assist with additional payroll and HR-related projects as responsibilities develop.
The Payroll Specialist will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Associate or bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- Entry-level candidates with relevant education and a strong interest in payroll are encouraged to apply.
- 2+ years of payroll, accounting, HR, or related experience preferred but not required.
- Multi-state payroll experience is a plus but not required.
- Manufacturing or experience supporting a workforce with both hourly and salaried employees is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Comfortable working with numbers, employee data, and deadline-driven processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn payroll and HRIS systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities with a willingness to research discrepancies and ask questions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally assist employees and managers.
- Dependable, confidential, and able to handle sensitive employee information appropriately.
- Eager to learn and develop additional payroll knowledge and responsibilities over time.
