Job summary

Trifecta Services Company in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Payroll Specialist to lead multi-state payroll and related accounting duties.

You will process weekly payroll, manage deductions and garnishments, post GL entries, handle year-end W-2s and ACA 1095-C forms, and keep payroll data current for new hires and status changes while ensuring compliance with payroll laws. Familiarity with QuickBooks, Paychex or ADP and strong Excel skills are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent work experience; 2–5 years payroll experience.
• Familiarity with general accounting principles is required.
• Construction industry experience preferred.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with personal information.
• Working knowledge of Federal and State labor laws.
• Excel proficiency required.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Paychex or ADP is a plus.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process multi-state payroll accurately and timely weekly.
• Prepare payroll data, import data, resolve discrepancies, and handle garnishments.
• Post payroll journal entries to the General Ledger.
• Assist with year-end reconciliation and processing of W‑2s and ACA 1095‑C forms.
• Update payroll records for new hires, terminations, withholdings, pay rate changes, and deductions.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws at city, state, and federal levels.
• Assist with employment verification and salary verifications from lenders and agencies.
• Process weekly disbursements for 401k and benefits; assist COBRA administration.
• Assist Accounting and HR with general accounting tasks as needed.

Payroll Specialist

Trifecta Services Company is currently seeking a talented Payroll Specialist to join our growing team as a leader in the demolition and environmental space. Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Trifecta Services Company is one of the largest demolition companies in North America.

Payroll Specialist Responsibilities

• Processing multi-state payroll accurately and timely in accordance with state and federal laws on a weekly basis.
• Responsible for preparation of payroll, importing data for payroll, resolving discrepancies, managing changes, and ensuring compliance with court-ordered payroll matters (child support, garnishments, etc.).
• Responsible for posting journal entries in general ledger for payroll purposes.
• Assist with fiscal year-end reconciliation and processing of W-2s and ACA 1095-C forms.
• Update payroll information relating to new hires, terminated employees, withholding allowances, pay rate changes, status changes, benefit deductions, payroll garnishments, direct deposits, etc.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of city, state, local, and federal legislation affecting payroll.
• Assist with employment verification forms/provide verbal salary verifications from lending institutions, state agencies, and other organizations.
• Responsible for processing weekly disbursements for 401k, benefits, HSA Plans, etc.
• Assist with COBRA Administration.
• Assists with fiscal year-end reconciliation and processing of W-2s.
• Assist Accounting and Human Resources as needed with general accounting task such as journal entries, reconciliation, etc.

Please note this position is structured to allocate approximately 70% of the time to payroll duties and 30% to general accounting/administrative task.

Requirements

• Associate degree or equivalent work experience – 2-5 years of relevant experience in the accomplishment of payroll. Familiarity with general accounting principles is required.
• Prior experience working in the construction industry is preferred.
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality as this position is responsible for and comes into contact with personal, confidential, and protected information on a daily basis.
• Working knowledge of Federal and State labor laws.
• Quick Books,Paychex or ADP experience a plus.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel experience required.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking abilities, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, interpersonal skills.
• Team player with the ability to participate in planning processes and work with others to meet goals and objectives.
• Bilingual a plus.

Physical Demands

• This position requires significant work at a desk but also requires walking, talking, and standing as needed to meet with employees, conduct meetings, etc.
• Requires lifting up to 20 pounds (files/uniforms/etc.) and bending (most frequently related to filing).
• Works extended hours as workload dictates.
• Ability to work well while under considerable stress/pressure.
