Job summary

Linn County is seeking a Payroll/Payables Specialist to support countywide payroll and payables with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and customer service. You’ll process payrolls, manage vendor payments, and maintain payroll and payables systems, ensuring timely, accurate records for IPERS, W-2s, COBRA, and more.

The role involves cross-department collaboration, training staff, and contributing to process improvements within a public-sector environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in accounting or closely related field.
• Two to four years of payroll or accounts payable experience, preferably in public sector.
• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payrolls and off-cycle corrections.
• Maintain payroll data including taxes, benefits, garnishments, and PTO.
• Prepare compliance reports such as IPERS and W-2s.
• Process weekly payments to vendors and employees via ACH and checks.
• Reconcile procurement cards and manage vendor records.
• Train staff and troubleshoot payables/payroll systems.
• Monitor budgets and ensure data integrity across systems.
