Job summary

Rhode Island College is seeking an Assistant Payroll Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Payroll Office, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all internal and state-administered payrolls.

This role supervises payroll staff, collaborates with HR, Accounting, Financial Aid, and State agencies, and supports system integrity and regulatory compliance. In the absence of the Payroll Manager, you will assume full payroll processing responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 2 years’ payroll experience in a business/financial environment
• Experience with payroll systems and enterprise platforms such as Workday is preferred

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Payroll Office for accurate, timely payroll processing
• Supervise payroll staff and coordinate with HR, Accounting, Financial Aid, and State agencies
• Manage payroll data flow within Workday and reconcile payroll accounting data
• Support system upgrades and testing of new functionality
• Handle W-2 production, wage verifications, and third-party vendor relations
• In the absence of the Payroll Manager, assume full payroll processing responsibilities
