Job summary

Spirit HR seeks a Payroll Manager to lead the payroll team, ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing with strong client service. You will oversee day-to-day operations, balance workloads, and work with the implementation team for smooth client transitions.

This working manager role requires developing SOPs, QA practices, and training payroll staff, while maintaining a reduced book of assigned clients and growing into a full-time management role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll processing experience, including multi-state payroll.
• 2+ years leading, supervising, or mentoring payroll staff.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field (or equivalent).
• FPC or CPP certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead, support, and develop the payroll team by distributing client assignments.
• Manage the implementation to payroll handoff process for new clients.
• Develop, maintain, and ensure consistent use of payroll SOPs.
• Establish and monitor QA practices, including spot audits and root-cause analysis.
• Develop coverage plans to maintain payroll continuity during absences.
• Train, coach, and conduct performance check-ins with payroll specialists.
• Identify, implement processes improvements, automation, and AI-assisted workflows using PrismHR and Wayside.
• Serve as escalation point for payroll questions and issues.
• Process full-cycle, multi-client payroll in PrismHR for assigned clients.
• Process garnishments, manual checks, and direct deposit/ACH transactions.
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate reports.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
