Job summary

Kforce is seeking a Payroll Operations Accountant in Sterling, VA to support payroll processing and accounting operations. The role includes handling biweekly/semi-monthly payroll, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting for salaried and hourly staff.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in payroll, 2+ years in accounting, and strong Excel skills, with knowledge of payroll laws and ERP systems. This on-site role offers benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
• 3+ years of payroll experience.
• 2+ years of accounting or general ledger experience.
• Experience with payroll software and ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of payroll laws, payroll taxes, and accounting principles.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Process biweekly or semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees.
• Review payroll data for accuracy, including pay rates, deductions, taxes, and benefit elections.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing.
• Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries and general ledger postings.
• Reconcile payroll, benefits, and tax accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
• Prepare account reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Assist with financial audits by providing documentation and schedules.
• Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
