Job summary

ID.me is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to own end-to-end payroll operations for a growing, multi-state workforce. You will partner with People Ops, Finance, and Legal to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing and strong compliance as the company scales.

The role requires deep payroll expertise across U.S. states, knowledge of wage/hour laws, tax regulations, and payroll accounting. You will drive process improvements while maintaining data confidentiality and accuracy.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a payroll management or lead role.
• Hands-on experience processing multi-state U.S. payroll for a company of 300+ employees.
• Strong working knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll accounting principles.
• Experience with a major payroll/HRIS platform.
• Experience processing equity compensation (RSUs and stock options) in payroll.
• High attention to detail and strong ownership of accuracy and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and discretion when handling sensitive employee data.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the end-to-end payroll cycle for all U.S. employees, across multiple states.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage/hour laws (FLSA).
• Process garnishments, bonuses, commissions, and equity-related payroll events.
• Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and assist month-end close and payroll-related entries.
• Manage relationships with payroll providers, tax agencies, and benefits vendors; serve as primary contact for payroll system administration.
• Administer and audit benefits deductions and pre/post-tax contributions with People Ops.
• Handle quarterly and annual payroll tax filings and support year-end processes.
• Maintain internal controls and assist payroll audits.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation as headcount grows.
• Respond to employee payroll inquiries with high level of service and confidentiality.
