Job summary

Payroll Manager, WMS2, for the State of Washington, based in Olympia. Leads the payroll team within the Office of Finance, Budget, and Economics to ensure accurate, timely processing of agency payroll and benefits in compliance with federal and state requirements.

The role oversees complex payroll transactions, provides strategic guidance to agency leadership, and ensures effective internal controls and training for the payroll unit.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of payroll and benefits experience.
• Two+ years of supervisory leadership experience.
• Advanced Excel capabilities with complex formulas, filters, macros.
• Ability to design and maintain payroll processes and controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead the agency payroll team and ensure accurate, timely processing.
• Review and approve payroll transactions, deductions, and tax payments.
• Develop internal controls and ensure GAAP/SAAM compliance.
• Advise Finance leadership on policy changes and risks.
• Coordinate with IT and Payroll Program for system changes and continuity.
