Job summary

The Seattle Office of City Finance seeks a Director of Payroll to lead payroll operations, time and attendance, and staff scheduling. You will drive strategic improvements to payroll systems, ensure accurate compensation and tax compliance, and coordinate with multiple departments to deliver timely financial reporting.

This senior role requires proven leadership across centralized and decentralized payroll environments, deep knowledge of federal and state payroll laws, and strong partnerships

Qualifications

• BA in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading centralized payroll under federal/state/local laws.
• Knowledge of FLSA, ACH, Forms 941, and tax remittance requirements.
• Experience with payroll systems in large, complex organizations.
• Ability to supervise and influence multiple departments and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead organization-wide payroll, time and attendance, and staff scheduling operations.
• Develop long-term payroll system and process strategy aligned with goals.
• Oversee citywide payroll processing and compliance with laws.
• Maintain internal controls and lead system upgrades and integrations.
• Provide payroll reporting and data analysis to senior leadership.
