Job summary

Gourmet Mushrooms seeks a Human Resources Payroll Manager for our Sebastopol, CA facility. This full-time, on-site role manages end-to-end payroll, maintains records, administers benefits, and supports HR policy interpretation and compliance.

Responsibilities include handling inquiries, resolving payroll discrepancies, and collaborating with Finance on reporting and audits. The position also supports onboarding/offboarding, employee relations initiatives, and HR projects to enhance workforce

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of employee benefits administration (health, retirement, leave).
• Experience in employee relations and building a positive workplace culture.
• Experience developing, interpreting, and enforcing HR policies in compliance with laws.
• Hands-on experience with payroll systems and timekeeping tools, multi-state payroll.
• Analytical, organized, and confidential with good problem-solving.
• Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Role Description

The Human Resources Payroll Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California. This position is responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Day-to-day activities include maintaining employee records, administering benefits, and supporting the implementation and interpretation of HR policies. The role also involves handling employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits, resolving payroll discrepancies, and collaborating with finance for reporting and audits. In addition, the Human Resources Payroll Manager supports employee relations initiatives, assists with onboarding and offboarding, and contributes to HR projects that enhance workforce engagement and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in Human Resources (HR) and HR Management, including oversight of HR operations and process improvement.


• Strong knowledge of Employee Benefits administration, including health, retirement, and leave programs.


• Proven ability in Employee Relations, including addressing employee concerns and supporting positive workplace culture.


• Experience developing, interpreting, and enforcing HR Policies in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.


• Hands-on expertise with payroll systems and timekeeping tools, including multi-state payroll processing and reporting.


• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and confidentiality.


• Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.


• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or food production environments


• Spanish proficiency (written and spoken) strongly preferred
