Job description

Career Transitions, a Morales Group company, is hiring a Payroll Manager to oversee accurate and customer-focused payroll operations.

Base Pay Range

$100,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr

Responsibilities
  • Manage all functions of the payroll operation and related functions by exemplifying a compliance and service-oriented approach with all payroll department team members (2 direct reports) as well as internal and external partners. This includes ensuring all payroll transactions are processed accurately and on time, identifying opportunities for process improvement and effectively managing the performance of all direct reports.
  • Hire, train and provide ongoing development opportunities for payroll operations staff. This development includes training on all payroll and case management systems and on payroll practices to ensure compliance with wage and labor laws, Federal, State and Local laws, and all Morales Group policies and procedures as they relate to payment of employees.
  • Partner with Accounting to verify that all payroll-related accounts are reconciled properly, and that all payments are reflected accurately on each employee’s record. Identify and establish auditing practices and procedures.
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest developments in payroll-related areas including technology, Federal, State and Local government regulations and apply knowledge to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Process year-end reporting (W-2s, ACA, taxes, etc).
  • Provide system reports as requested or needed.
  • Manage day-to-day payroll vendor relationships with vendor account managers to ensure service levels are met.
  • Maintain good communications and working relationships with all departments in the company.
  • Use independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member with co-workers in all departments of the company and maintain excellent working relationships with co-workers, clients and employees.
  • Monitor industry trends, new products, current research, and new programs in payroll accounting.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree preferred but will accept a high school diploma with a strong payrolling background, with at least 8 years of solid payrolling experience.
  • Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge.
  • System savvy -- spreadsheet proficient (hardware and software).
  • Strong managerial abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and staff, and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to interact and work closely with customers, prospects, community groups, vendors, and interact with a diversified staff of employees.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and material concerning employees, wages, company information, complaint investigation and progressive disciplinary information.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to maintain effectiveness during change.
