Spotless Brands is seeking a Payroll Lead in Illinois to serve as a functional expert and backup to the Payroll Manager. You will oversee daily payroll operations, ensure compliance, and drive process improvements while coordinating with stakeholders across the organization.
The role requires 5+ years of payroll experience, across multi-state operations, and a strong knowledge of payroll tax and regulatory requirements.
The Payroll Lead is a functional lead and subject-matter expert, not a people manager. The position does not have direct supervisory responsibility or formal performance-management authority over Payroll Specialists. The Payroll Lead works closely with the Payroll Manager to support daily operations, maintain payroll controls, improve processes, and ensure a high level of service.
The Payroll Lead also serves as the designated backup to the Payroll Manager, providing operational continuity and assuming appropriate payroll responsibilities during the Payroll Manager’s absence, as well as collaborating with the Payroll Manager on special projects. This includes helping coordinate payroll activities, addressing escalated issues, and serving as a point of contact for internal stakeholders when needed.
