capstone group, a multifaceted CPA firm, seeks a Payroll Lead to develop and maintain relationships with payroll clients and staff, and to create company-wide payroll policies ensuring timely, accurate pay in compliance with regulations.

The role involves collaborating with Partners on goals, overseeing payroll processes, updating for new hires/terminations, and guiding Payroll Specialists while partnering with HR to foster an inclusive, productive team environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll processing experience.
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop payroll.
• Experience with cloud-based payroll platforms.
• Ability to plan and manage processes efficiently.
• Strong integrity and team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Partners to set performance goals and long-term plans.
• Oversee payroll procedures and respond to inquiries.
• Process payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes.
• Ensure timely payroll updates for hires/terminations.
• Ensure compliance with payroll laws at all levels.
• Support audits by providing records.
• Recommend updates to payroll software and SOPs.
• Plan work and prioritize to optimize team performance.
• Manage relationships with clients and payroll staff.
• Lead Payroll Specialists and assist with trainings.
• Uphold policies and regulations.
• Collaborate with HR to maintain an inclusive environment.

About Us

We are a multifaceted CPA firm that provides financial and tax planning to our business and personal clients by offering payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, and tax services. We have close relationships with financial advisors and family attorneys which enable us to provide a full array of services to our clients under one roof.

The Job

The Payroll Leadis responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with payroll clients and staff, developing company-wide payroll policies and procedures, and ensuring that pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.

What do we need you to do?

• Collaborate with Partners in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans.
• Oversee procedures and processes and manage inquiries and requests related to preparation and distribution of payroll.
• Process payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
• Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
• Identify and recommend updates to payroll software, systems, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Conduct work planning, estimation, and prioritization to optimize performance of team.
• Manage effective internal/external client relationships.
• Manage Payroll Specialists and assist with departmental trainings.
• Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed.
• Work closely with human resources to lead team with integrity and establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.

Qualifications for this position:

• 5+ years of dedicated experience in payroll processing or a similar role.
• Proven expertise with QuickBooks Desktop for payroll calculation, processing, and reporting.
• Demonstrated experience with cloud-based payroll (e.g., ADP Workforce Now, Paychex Flex, Gusto, etc.).
• Proven ability to plan and manage operational process for maximum efficiency and productivity.
• Must inspire others and maintain a culture of transparency, integrity, and honesty in all aspects of your role.
• Creative problem‑solving and negotiating skills.
• Proven ability to develop high‑performing teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
