Qualifications

  • Associate degree in HR, business, accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience.
  • Experience payroll for multi-department/locations preferred.
  • Experience with HR administration and benefits administration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary payroll administrator for two payrolls.
  • Process payroll data: hours, leave, overtime, bonuses, deductions.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, local laws.
  • Manage wage changes, tax withholdings, direct deposits, status changes.
  • Coordinate benefit deductions and retirement contributions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies with strong customer service.
  • Collaborate with Finance and HR leadership for accuracy.
  • Assist with audits, reporting and year-end activities.
  • Maintain HR records, onboarding and employment verification.
  • Support benefits administration and HR projects.

Provident Behavioral Health is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll & Human Resources Coordinator to support our growing workforce and help advance our mission of increasing access to quality behavioral health services, especially for those with the greatest need.

This role is ideal for an HR professional with strong payroll experience who enjoys balancing compliance, accuracy, employee service, and administrative excellence. The Payroll & Human Resources Coordinator serves as the primary payroll administrator while also supporting key HR functions including benefits administration, onboarding, employee records management, compliance, and employee engagement initiatives.

What You’ll Do:
Payroll Administration (Primary Focus)
  • Serve as the primary administrator for two organizational payrolls.
  • Review, process, verify, and reconcile payroll data including hours worked, paid leave, overtime, bonuses, stipends, and payroll adjustments.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Process employee wage changes, tax withholding updates, direct deposit changes, and employment status updates.
  • Coordinate benefit deductions, retirement contributions, garnishments, and other payroll-related deductions.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies while providing exceptional customer service to employees.
  • Partner with Finance and HR leadership to ensure payroll accuracy and timely processing.
  • Assist with payroll audits, reporting, reconciliations, and year-end payroll activities.
Human Resources Administration
  • Maintain employee personnel files, HR records, and HRIS data.
  • Process new hire paperwork, promotions, transfers, employee status changes, and terminations.
  • Coordinate employment verification requests and other employee documentation.
  • Support compliance activities, audits, reporting requirements, and HR recordkeeping.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding policies, procedures, and HR programs.
  • Assist with HR projects and process improvement initiatives.
Benefits & Retirement Administration
  • Process employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Assist employees with benefit-related questions and resources.
  • Support administration of retirement and 401(k) programs.
  • Coordinate benefit data updates between HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Coordinate job postings and applicant tracking activities.
  • Schedule interviews and assist hiring managers with recruitment logistics.
  • Facilitate pre-employment requirements including background screenings, drug testing, and I-9 verification.
  • Prepare offer letters and onboarding documentation.
  • Support new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
Employee Engagement & Culture
  • Assist with employee engagement, recognition, and appreciation initiatives.
  • Support organizational events and employee celebrations.
  • Partner with the HR team to promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven culture.
What We’re Looking For:
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience required.
  • Experience administering payroll for organizations with multiple departments, locations, or pay groups preferred.
  • Experience in Human Resources, employee administration, benefits administration, or related HR support functions.
  • Experience using payroll, HRIS, and employee data management systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or aPHR certification.
  • Experience with UKG, IPS/Anova, or similar payroll and HRIS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour requirements, and HR compliance practices.
  • Experience supporting benefits administration and retirement plans.
  • Primary office location: 2650 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO
  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Typical work schedule falls between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Hybrid schedule available with up to 2 remote days per week based on business needs.
  • Occasional travel to other Provident locations and community sites may be required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and navigate office and community-based environments independently.
