Job summary

Beacon Hill in Portland is seeking a highly experienced Payroll Consultant for a long-term, hybrid engagement. You will enter an established payroll environment, identify opportunities for improvement, and help build a standardized, automated, scalable payroll operating model.

The role requires extensive payroll experience, the ability to work cross-functionally with HR, finance, and IT, and strong Excel skills to design robust processes and workflows.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience preferred.
• Experience supporting complex, multi-entity or multi-location payroll operations.
• Experience assessing payroll processes and designing a standardized, scalable future state.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to work independently, think strategically, dig into the details, and challenge outdated processes.

Our client in the Portland area is looking for an experienced Payroll Consultant for a long-term engagement. You will step into an established payroll environment, uncover opportunities for improvement, and help build a more standardized, automated, and scalable way forward.

As the Payroll Consultant, you will be responsible for:

• Assessing current payroll processes, workflows, systems, and controls
• Identifying inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and manual processes
• Developing a standardized and scalable payroll operating model
• Recommending opportunities for automation and system improvements
• Designing stronger workflows, approvals, controls, and audit trails
• Creating clear process documentation and standard operating procedures
• Partnering with payroll, HR, finance, operations, and technology stakeholders
• Helping move recommendations from concept through implementation

This is not a routine payroll-processing position. It is an opportunity to take ownership of a meaningful project, ask the right questions, and influence how payroll operates moving forward. This is a hybrid position in the Portland area.
