Job summary

Heitkamp & Thumann in Nevada is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to manage biweekly payroll, benefits programs, and leave administration with accuracy and compliance. You will own day-to-day processing, collaborate with Finance, HR, and vendors, and drive process improvements while maintaining confidentiality and high service levels.

Responsibilities include payroll audits, benefits enrollment, open enrollment planning, LSA, and ensuring data integrity in Paylocity.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
• At least 3 years of progressively responsible payroll, benefits, HR operations, or related experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of payroll administration, payroll taxes, employee benefits, FMLA, leave management, and applicable federal and state requirements.
• Experience with HRIS and payroll systems; Paylocity experience preferred.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, reconciliation ability, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to manage confidential information and exercise sound judgment, discretion, and appropriate escalation.
• Ability to independently prioritize deadlines, anticipate needs, document procedures, and follow responsibilities through completion.
• Effective written and verbal communication; approachable, service-oriented, and collaborative with employees, supervisors, and leaders.
• Experience in manufacturing or a multi-shift environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer biweekly payroll from timecard review through approvals, funding coordination, and reconciliation.
• Audit hours, overtime, pay rates, deductions, reimbursements, and retroactive adjustments for accuracy.
• Maintain payroll change controls and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate payroll funding, tax reconciliations, garnishments, and year-end activities.
• Investigate payroll discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
• Administer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, FSA/HSA, and other benefit programs.
• Process and audit benefits enrollments, qualifying life events, and deductions; reconcile invoices.
• Plan and coordinate annual open enrollment with employee education and communications.
• Manage leave cases (FMLA, disability, accommodation) and maintain leave records.
• Maintain Paylocity HRIS data integrity and process changes with HR team.
