Job summary

YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to accurately process semimonthly payroll and administer employee benefits. You will work with Finance, Human Resources, supervisors, and staff to ensure precise payroll data and timely benefit changes.

The role requires strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and confidentiality, supporting open enrollment and monthly/annual close across multiple employee types.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
• Two+ years payroll, accounting, benefits administration, or related experience preferred.
• Experience with multi-department payroll and full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees is preferred.
• Working knowledge of payroll deductions, benefits, and wage-hour requirements; strong Excel skills.
• Experience with Paylocity or other HRIS/payroll systems; willingness to learn new systems.

Responsibilities

• Process semimonthly payroll accurately and on time; review timecards, earnings, deductions, and adjustments.
• Administer benefits including enrollments, changes, and terminations; reconcile deductions and carrier invoices.
• Reconcile payroll to GL; prepare journal entries and support documentation; assist with audits.
• Maintain payroll and benefits data in Paylocity and accounting systems; ensure data integrity.
• Provide prompt employee support on payroll and benefits questions; collaborate across Finance and HR.
