Job summary

Smiths Detection in Edgewood, MD is seeking a Payroll/Benefits Specialist to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, maintain records, and support benefits administration for the US workforce. You will review timekeeping, deductions, and tax withholdings, audit data, and provide excellent service to employees and managers while working with ADP and SAP systems and collaborating with HR and Finance.

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience with audits and reconciliations.
• Payroll certification such as FPC, CPP, or CEBS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process union and non-union payroll in accordance with agreements and laws.
• Review and validate hourly timekeeping and pay-code activities for accuracy.
• Process and audit commissions, bonuses, and retroactive pay.
• Maintain accurate employee records including hires, terminations, and changes.
• Audit timecards, earnings, deductions, and payroll reports.
• Research and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees and managers.
• Review tax withholdings and monitor notices; perform basic reconciliations.
• Support year-end activities by reviewing W-2 information for accuracy.
• Assist with updating benefit deductions and open enrollment validation.
• Generate routine payroll reports for HR, Finance, and management.
