Job summary

Champion Home Builders, Inc. looks for a Payroll Assistant at its Athens, Texas facility to join a hands-on team focused on accurate payroll processing and HR support.

You’ll manage data, keep records current, and assist with benefits and onboarding while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail. The role requires 2–3 years payroll experience, strong Excel and MS Office skills, familiarity with UKG/UltiPro, and excellent organizational abilities.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of payroll experience with HR exposure.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (basic formulas and functions).
• Familiarity with UKG/UltiPro payroll systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Strong organization, multitasking and communication skills.
• High accuracy and attention to detail; follow procedures but seek improvements.
• Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
• Experience in a fast-paced or manufacturing environment is a plus.

About the Role

As a Payroll Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate payroll processing while supporting key HR functions. This is a hands-on role requiring attention to detail, organization, and a strong sense of accountability.

What You'll Do

Payroll Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll by compiling, calculating, and entering data accurately and timely
• Maintain payroll records, including deductions, benefits, and tax information
• Track leave, non-taxable wages, and earnings records
• Generate payroll reports and assist with audits as needed
• Issue paychecks and resolve discrepancies
• Ability to use Excel and manipulate spreadsheets confidently

Human Resources Support

• Maintain and update employee records (personal data, benefits, compensation)
• Support recruiting and onboarding activities
• Ensure new hire paperwork is complete and compliant
• Track PTO and vacation accruals
• Assist with benefits administration, including open enrollment
• Manage workers' compensation records and reporting
• Serve as a resource for employee HR-related questions

What We're Looking For

• 2–3 years of payroll experience with HR exposure
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (basic formulas and functions required)
• Familiarity with payroll systems (UKG/UltiPro preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Strong organization, multitasking, and communication skills - able create a schedule that works for timely payroll submission
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail – demonstrate the ability to respect established procedures but be able to use critical and forward thinking to identify opportunities to improve processes
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
• Experience working in a fast-paced or manufacturing environment is a plus

Language Skills

• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• Additional HR/payroll training or experience preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
