About Us The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Job Summary

The Payroll Analyst I supports systems within the University System of Georgia. Engages in system administration, and hands-on functional support necessary to maintain the University System of Georgia\'s vision for improved payroll services and promote a responsive, service-oriented team operation. We are hiring several candidates for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Works with technical and end-user staff to analyze and trouble-shoot errors
  • Facilitates the communication and resolution of all institution facing payroll support needs in preparation for centralized payroll processing. Perform all duties as normally assigned to a local practitioner
  • Answer incoming tier one calls, emails, and/or chats as required to meet support needs
  • Research issues and/or problems reported by customers and provides support, assistance and when applicable, resolutions
  • Develops and maintains documentation and procedures
  • Mentor and cross train internally with team members
  • Prepare and administer training to institution practitioner partners
  • Ensures prompt, accurate reporting and payment of federal, state, and local payroll taxes and returns, garnishments, retirement, and spending accounts for each of our 26 institutions, with minimal guidance
  • Serves as institution and 3rd party vendor liaison for the purpose of managing issues and ensuring accuracy
  • Responsible for the preparation and payroll processing for institutions including balancing and review of all output, investigation, and correction of errors, with minimal guidance
  • Assist with system testing of all payroll related updates in conjunction with ITS, supervisors and managers
  • Responsible for balancing and transmission of all vendor and bank interfaces of payroll related data, with minimal guidance
  • Escalates any reconciliation and payroll production issues
  • Provides output data and reporting upon request
  • Supports the facilitation of meetings and provides trainings including preparation and presentation
  • Provides accurate and up-to-date communications
  • Processes, supports, and maintains reports related to payroll administration
  • Works cross-functionally to maintain data integrity and to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Participates in cross-functional SSC project teams
  • Continuous risk assessment and recommendations of process improvements

In addition to the above, other duties may be assigned outside of the scope of this description.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
This position requires a bachelor\'s degree and two years of payroll administration experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the necessary knowledge and skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, effectively managing workflow and ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Strong written and oral communication with ability to train staff and customers in functions and reporting
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse group of staff, technical staff, and functional end-users
  • Ability to plan, organize and schedule duties to meet rigid deadlines and changing priorities
  • Ability to process a high volume of detailed work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and changing demands while being responsive to end user needs
  • Extremely detail-oriented, with strong interpersonal and collaborative work style and ability to develop effective working relationships and demonstrate commitment to being a team player
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures related to payroll administration
  • Intermediate knowledge of Payroll, Federal, State and Local tax regulations, retirement, garnishments, and spending accounts
  • Experience with a variety of HRMS software programs
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft applications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills
  • Proven Customer Service Skills
