Job summary

Wight & Company in Darien, IL is seeking a Payroll Administrator / General Ledger Accountant to support our accounting and finance operations. This role handles payroll processing, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting support.

The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting, 3+ years payroll and accounting experience, knowledge of payroll laws, and proficiency with accounting software. Experience in construction or project-based environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Administration: Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Payroll Administration: Review timesheets, payroll deductions, benefits, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
  • Payroll Administration: Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • General Ledger Accounting: Prepare and post journal entries.
  • General Ledger Accounting: Reconcile bank accounts, payroll accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
  • General Ledger Accounting: Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • General Ledger Accounting: Maintain and analyze general ledger activity.
  • General Ledger Accounting: Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation.
  • Accounts & Financial Support: Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed.
  • Accounts & Financial Support: Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
  • Accounts & Financial Support: Assist with special projects and continuous process improvements.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk / General Ledger Accountant to support our accounting and finance operations. This position is responsible for accurate payroll processing, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and financial reporting support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and committed to accuracy and confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Payroll Administration
    • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
    • Review timesheets, payroll deductions, benefits, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
    • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • General Ledger Accounting

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of payroll and accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of payroll laws and accounting principles.
  • Experience with accounting software and payroll systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Experience with construction, professional services, or project-based accounting environments a plus.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
