Job summary

Rock Force in Nashville is seeking a Payroll Accountant to manage weekly and off-cycle payroll journal entries across multiple units. You will audit entries, trace coding to source data, and help reconcile activity with the general ledger.

The role requires 2+ years in payroll/accounting, strong Excel skills (XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, PivotTables), and experience with ERP systems. Hybrid, full-time, in‑person collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in payroll accounting or finance.
• Accounting degree preferred.
• Strong knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, and GL accounting.
• Advanced Excel with large data sets (XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, PivotTables).
• Experience with ERP systems; Sage is a plus.
• ADP and/or Paylocity experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, audit, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Payroll Accountant prepares, audits, reconciles, and imports payroll journal entries for multiple business units. This role works with large payroll data sets to ensure payroll is completely and accurately recorded, including proper project and accounting codes. The position works closely with internal Accounting and Payroll teams and supports weekly, off-cycle, and periodic payroll reviews.

Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas

• Prepare and import weekly and off-cycle payroll journal entries for multiple business units.
• Audit payroll entries for completeness, accuracy, balancing, and proper accounting codes before final review and approval.
• Trace payroll activity to source support to validate project, GL account, department, location, and entity coding.
• Create payroll journal entries from source data when needed.
• Reconcile payroll activity to supporting records and the general ledger, as applicable.
• Perform more comprehensive payroll reconciliations and reviews monthly or quarterly.
• Research discrepancies and prepare corrections or reclassifications for review.
• Support audits, cost analysis, special projects, and payroll accounting process improvements.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of relevant accounting, payroll accounting, or finance experience.
• Accounting degree preferred.
• Strong understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets, including XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and PivotTables.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Sage experience is a plus.
• ADP and/or Paylocity experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, audit, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal teams.

Work Environment

Hybrid, full-time exempt position. Must be able to manage recurring payroll deadlines, off-cycle activity, and other time-sensitive accounting needs.
