Ideal candidates have 1–2+ years of payroll experience, multi-state payroll knowledge, and familiarity with ADP Vantage or NetSuite. A bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance is preferred but not required. This role offers growth and a stable, long-term career path.

Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple entities preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll maintenance, reconciliations, and tax processes.
  • Knowledge of garnishments and multi-state payroll requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple entities and meet deadlines.
  • Manage payroll maintenance: new hires, terminations, merit increases, retroactive adjustments, bonuses, benefits changes, and W-4s.
  • Complete bi-weekly payroll reconciliations and prepare related journal entries.
  • Review and process employee reimbursements and expense reports.
  • Reconcile tax payments and support quarterly/annual filings.
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc payroll reports and audit support.

Job Description:

Addison Group is partnering with an established, family-owned organization to identify a Payroll Accountant to join their accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative accounting environment while taking ownership of payroll processing, payroll reconciliations, and cash accounting activities across multiple entities.

The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-state payroll and be comfortable working with detailed payroll maintenance, reconciliations, and cash transactions. Candidates with a strong payroll background or a combination of payroll and accounting/reconciliation experience are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple entities while ensuring accuracy and meeting established payroll deadlines
  • Manage payroll maintenance including new hires, terminations, merit increases, retroactive adjustments, commissions, bonuses, benefits changes, direct deposit updates, and W-4 changes
  • Complete bi-weekly payroll reconciliations and prepare related journal entries
  • Review and process employee reimbursements
  • Reconcile federal, state, and local tax payments and support quarterly and annual tax filings
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc payroll reports
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and other transaction-related issues
  • Support payroll audits and external audits, including 401(k), financial, and unemployment insurance audits
  • Prepare deposits and manage cash-related transactions for multiple entities
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations and record and allocate cash transactions for financial reporting
  • Review bank activity, including positive pay, lockbox deposits, and transaction reports
  • Process bank transfers, outgoing wires, and investment transactions
  • Prepare and post cash-related journal entries
  • Assist with cash application and reconciliation activities
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll, financial, and employee information
  • Provide backup support to other accounting functions as needed

Qualifications:

  • 1–2+ years of payroll experience; experience with multi-state payroll is highly preferred
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple entities or companies preferred
  • Strong understanding of payroll maintenance, payroll reconciliations, and payroll tax processes
  • Knowledge of garnishments and multi-state payroll requirements preferred
  • Strong accounting and bank reconciliation experience is highly beneficial
  • Experience with ADP Vantage is preferred
  • Experience with NetSuite or another ERP/accounting system is preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, but not required
  • CPP certification is preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
  • Willingness to stay current on payroll regulations, processes, and best practices
