Job description

Payments Business Development Internship Summer

This is a Business Development internship focused on growing the adoption of CrewLAB's payments feature. Working directly with Co-Founder David Kerns and the Scale Squad, you will take a zero-to-one product and help existing, highly-engaged teams process real money through the platform—from team dues to gear orders.

Your Mission

Drive the expansion of CrewLAB’s brand new payments feature by onboarding existing teams onto Stripe and transitioning them away from outdated spreadsheets and Venmo.

Act as the vital bridge between the customer and the engineering team by running targeted outreach campaigns, gathering UX feedback, and helping shape the future of in-app payments.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Team Sports Background: Rower, swimmer, or runner (or deeply connected to a team sport community). You intimately understand the pain points of managing team money, dues, and gear orders.
  • Confident Communicator: Comfortable calling coaches you've never spoken with to have real, consultative conversations about their current payment workflows and guiding them through new setups.
  • Product-Curious & Organized: Capable of managing a pipeline of 100+ teams while meticulously tracking onboarding progress. You notice when an app flow is confusing, can articulate why, and can organize that feedback clearly for engineers.
  • Education: Current student (3rd year+) or recent grad with a background in Business, Sport Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
Core Focus Areas & Curriculum
  • Expansion Sales Methodology: Combine narrative learning (The Mom Test) with technical frameworks (The Sandler Selling System) to master having honest conversations and qualifying pain rather than just pitching features.
  • Pipeline Building (Weeks 1-2): Master the CrewLAB payments flow, utilize Airtable to identify high-engagement targets based on user data, and build a pipeline of 50+ existing teams.
  • Outreach & Onboarding (Weeks 3-8): Execute targeted email/call campaigns, run live onboarding calls for Stripe setup, and capture structured product feedback for the Scale Squad engineering team.
  • Expansion & Knowledge Sharing (Weeks 9-12): Track Gross Payment Volume (GPV) growth, conduct interviews to build 3-5 written case studies, and deliver a concluding "State of Payments Adoption" presentation to the company.
Technology

CRM, Data & Project Management: HubSpot, Airtable, Notion

Benefits & Compensation
  • Direct mentorship from CrewLAB Co-Founder David Kerns and exposure to an experienced sports tech startup team.
  • Base stipend plus a performance bonus tied to adoption outcomes (teams onboarded, GPV processed).
  • Access to a Pro Claude Code license.
  • A focused learning objective to leave with highly marketable skills in B2B expansion sales and customer onboarding.
  • Possibility for future projects and employment upon program completion.
