Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Pearland, TX is seeking a Billing Specialist for a hybrid role with in-office work and remote flexibility after onboarding. You will process remittance files, post payments, and reconcile deposits while researching patient accounts in Epic. Strong EDI (835) understanding, CPT/ ICD-9 knowledge and solid analytical skills are required.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package and a pay range of $16–$29 per hour based on experience and performance.

Qualifications

• Requires 3+ years in a business office with 1+ year in coordination of benefits & EOB/RA interpretations.
• Strong data entry (7000 kph, 1–5% error) and analytical skills.
• Familiar with CPT, ICD-9 coding and robust organization.

Responsibilities

• Process and reconcile electronic remittance files against deposits and resolve discrepancies.
• Post payments and contractual adjustments, reconcile postings to lockbox deposits.
• Research patient accounts in Epic with EOB/RA interpretations.
• Interpret EOBs and COB coordination; ensure accurate revenue reporting.
• Comply with policies and assist internal/external customers.
• Identify issues with carriers and support performance recognition.

This position offers a blend of in -office work in Pearland TX, and remote work. Flexible start times after a period of training/onboarding.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Process and reconcile electronic remittance files against deposits and resolve any resulting discrepancies
• Post payments and contractual adjustments, reconcile postings to lockbox deposits
• Research patient accounts on the Business Office System (Epic) with an understanding of payment, allowance, write-off and EDI (835) transactions
• Interpret EOB's and R/A's and comprehend coordination of benefits
• Ensure accurate, efficient revenue reporting for Kelsey Seybold Clinic
• Comply with company policies and procedures
• Ability to identify and quantify issues with carriers
• Provide customer service to both internal and external customers

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of business office experience and 1+ years of experience in coordination of benefits & EOB/RA interpretations - Total 3+ years of experience
• 10 key/data entry and analytical skills - requires 7000 kph with an error rate of 1 to 5%
• Demonstrated basic CPT, ICD-9coding knowledge
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, mathematical and analytical skills
• Demonstrated positive demeanor and good verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated professionalism in both appearance and approach
• Demonstrated computer knowledge
• Proven ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified medical business office training
• 3+ years of business office experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of business office patient accounting system (Epic)
• Demonstrated knowledge of EDI (835) Transmissions

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
