Job summary

Fisher Industries, a family-owned leader in heavy civil construction and aggregate products, seeks a Paver Operator to safely operate asphalt paving equipment across driveways, parking lots, streets and pathways. You will monitor material temperatures, coordinate with dump trucks, and ensure consistent, quality pavement.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with clean MVR per company insurance guidelines.
  • Willing to work in a team environment.
  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment and routine maintenance ability.
  • Must be able to travel to different job sites and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the asphalt paver and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Preheat screed and monitor asphalt temperature settings.
  • Light burners to start heating units when needed and regulate screed temperature.
  • Control paver movement, hopper flow, and steering to ensure proper pavement alignment.
  • Line up paver to work area and maintain steady material flow from dump trucks.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature and distribution to avoid voids at joints and edges.
  • Train new employees in safe and efficient paver operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION SCOPE

The Paver Operator is a safety sensitive position. The Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver. This position operates paving machines to spread and level hot mix paving material on driveways, parking lots, streets and pathways.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Operate the paver and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
  • Preheat paving screed before placement of asphalt and monitor and control temperature settings of the asphalt mixture
  • If needed, manually light burners to start heating units of the paver and regulate screed temperature
  • Operate the paver controls to lower the screed auger, control the hopper, and navigate the direction of the paver
  • Align the paving machine into position when receiving asphalt by dump truck; at times, maintain a constant flow of asphalt into the hopper; ease paver forward, safely pushing the dump truck along the construction surface
  • Observe the distribution of paving material along the screed and control the direction of the screed to eliminate voids at curbs and joints
  • Line paver appropriately to the work area, and ensures the proper application of the asphalt, smoothing it evenly to the desired height, width, and depth
  • Monitor temperature of asphalt flowing from the hopper
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the paver
  • Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and have a clean motor‑vehicle record to meet company insurance guidelines
  • Willing to work in a team environment
  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment and being able to perform routine maintenance
  • Travel to different job sites and projects
