POSITION SUMMARY

The Paver / Hardscape Installer is responsible for preparing and installing pavers and hardscape materials for commercial and landscape construction projects. This position performs all phases of paver installation, including site preparation, grading, base preparation, layout, cutting, placement, jointing, compaction, and finishing.

The ideal candidate has experience with paver and hardscape installation, understands proper grades and elevations, and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality finished work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Install concrete, brick, clay, porcelain, natural-stone, and other approved paver materials according to project plans and specifications.
• Prepare installation areas through excavation, grading, leveling, and compaction.
• Prepare and install aggregate base, bedding materials, and other required foundation materials.
• Measure and establish grades, elevations, slopes, layout lines, and patterns.
• Lay and set pavers while maintaining proper spacing, alignment, pattern, elevation, and finished appearance.
• Cut pavers and hardscape materials accurately using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Install edging, restraints, borders, and other components necessary to secure completed paver areas.
• Apply jointing materials and complete required compaction and finishing procedures.
• Work with traditional and specialty paver installation systems, including ROMEX® or similar bedding, bonding, and jointing products when required by project specifications.
• Assist with proper drainage and slope requirements to promote appropriate water flow.
• Identify uneven surfaces, settlement concerns, alignment issues, or other installation problems and make corrections as directed.
• Read and follow basic plans, drawings, measurements, layouts, and project specifications.
• Calculate and verify measurements necessary for paver installation.
• Load, unload, move, and stage pavers, base materials, sand, tools, and other hardscape materials.
• Operate compactors, masonry or paver saws, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment for which the employee has been properly trained.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• Protect existing landscaping, structures, utilities, and surrounding property during installation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
• Communicate effectively with foremen, supervisors, project managers, and crew members.
• Follow company safety policies, procedures, and required personal protective equipment standards.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, incidents, or injuries immediately.
• Assist with additional paver and hardscape installation duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous paver, hardscape, masonry, or related landscape construction experience preferred.
• Experience with commercial paver installation preferred.
• Knowledge of grading, leveling, base preparation, compaction, and drainage.
• Experience with ROMEX® hardscape systems, resin jointing products, bonded paver installations, or similar systems is preferred.
• Ability to establish and maintain accurate grades, slopes, patterns, and elevations.
• Ability to accurately use measuring and layout tools.
• Experience cutting and fitting pavers around borders, structures, drains, and other site features.
• Ability to safely operate paver installation tools and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow plans, specifications, verbal instructions, and established installation procedures.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a crew.
• Reliable attendance and ability to report to assigned job sites as scheduled.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires regular physical activity associated with outdoor construction work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment.

The employee must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The employee must be able to:

• Regularly lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently move pavers, bags of sand or jointing material, tools, and other hardscape materials throughout the workday.
• Assist with materials exceeding 50 pounds using team lifting techniques or appropriate equipment.
• Work from kneeling, crouching, and bending positions for extended periods while installing and finishing pavers.
• Work on uneven terrain and in varying outdoor weather conditions.

Safely perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed outdoors at active landscape and construction job sites. Conditions may include heat, cold, dust, dirt, noise, uneven terrain, construction equipment, and changing weather conditions.

Employees must follow all company safety requirements and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Paver / Hardscape Installer is responsible for following all company and job-site safety procedures. Employees must use tools and equipment properly, wear required personal protective equipment, maintain safe work areas, and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, or equipment concerns.
